Alessandra Kustermann
Alessandra Kustermann (1953) – Mother of two biological children and one ‘child by choice’, and grandmother of three grandchildren aged between 7 and 25. Gynaecologist at Mangiagalli-IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico – Milan, expert in Pregnancy Pathology, Prenatal Diagnosis (1993-2009 head), Sexual and Domestic Violence (in 1996 she was head of the first public Anti-Violence Centre), Family Counselling Centres.
Between 2006 and 2009, she was a member of the Italian National Health Council. Between 2009 and 2022, she was Director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit. She has spoken at over 300 conferences and published numerous scientific articles and book chapters.
She was awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Milan in 2021, and in 2024 she was appointed Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Additionally, she received the Von Furstenberg Foundation Award and the De Sanctis Award for the Protection of Human Rights.
Since November 2021, as president of the SVS – Donna Aiuta Donna Anti-Violence Centre, she has been implementing the Cascina Ri-Nascita project to restore self-esteem, economic and housing independence to 90 unemployed women with minor children every two years.
