Starhawk

Starhawk (1951) is a veteran of many nonviolent direct action movements, from the antiwar activism of the ‘60s, the early feminist organizing of the 1970’s through the global justice movement of the ‘00s, Palestine solidarity, and the current resistance to the resurgence of fascism in the USA. She holds a B.A. in Art from UCLA in 1972 and an M.A. in Psychology with a focus on Feminist Therapy from Antioch West in 1982, as well as a double diploma in Permaculture Design and Teaching from the Permaculture Institute of North America.

She is the author of thirteen books on earth-based spirituality and activism, including The Spiral Dance, The Earth Path, and The Empowerment Manual: A Guide for Collaborative Groups, on group dynamics and social permaculture, and her novels, The Fifth Sacred Thing and City of Refuge.

Together with director Donna Read Cooper, Starhawk has worked on five major documentaries, including the Goddess Trilogy for the National Film Board of Canada and Permaculture: The Growing Edge.

Currently, she is writing a book chapter by chapter on Substack: with an accompanying podcast available there and on Spotify, Apple, etc.
